STATUS: Unchanged for 2020 - Cadillac is fleshing out its utility-vehicle lineup that now includes the five-passenger XT5, the new-for-2020 XT6 and the giant-size Escalade. The XT4 was new for the 2019 model year and competes with the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. A 237-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder is attached to a nine-speed automatic transmission and constitutes the XT4's sole powertrain. The optional all-wheel-drive has a decoupling feature that allows the rear axle to freewheel when road conditions warrant, thus improving fuel efficiency. All trim levels - Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport - come with dual-zone climate control, power-operated front seats, eight-inch information screen (operated using a controller on the center console), exterior front and rear LED lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels. At the top end, the Sport gets you a sport (naturally) suspension plus a complete array of active-safety technologies, such as emergency braking. A number of added features (carbon-fiber trim and a power liftgate, for example) find their way into the Sport. A power sunroof and Bose audio system with navigation are optional.
