Kia Sportage
STATUS: Minor changes for 2020 - A new elongated front end and a new headlight design take some stubbiness out of the Sportage, while making the compact utility vehicle more aerodynamic. A previous update resulted in more liftgate glass area to improve visibility, and a slightly lower load floor made cargo handling easier. The stowage area behind the split-folding rear seat was also increased by about 18 percent. Ultimately, it doesn't measure up to Honda CR-V or Volkswagen Tiguan for size (consider the Kia Sorento instead). Powerplants consist of a non-turbo base engine or optional turbocharged four-cylinder. All-wheel-drive is available no matter which engine you pick. The system includes a locking differential that splits the torque equally between the front and rear wheels and is intended for more severe excursions. All models are decently equipped, but the top performer SX Turbo comes with a 320-watt Harmon Kardon-brand stereo, panoramic sunroof and a full suite of crash-avoiding/mitigating safety technology.
