STATUS: Unchanged for 2020 - The CX-3 is a visually exciting compact utility vehicle, with the emphasis on "compact" as it relates to interior and cargo dimensions. The cabin provides adequate room for front-seat riders, but the same can't be said for any adult occupying the back seat. The tall load floor also limits cargo to smaller boxes and groceries. All CX-3s receive the SkyActiv treatment, which includes a sport-style suspension that had been retuned for the 2019 model year. A 148-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission, but the engine practically begs for a six-speed manual. The optional all-wheel-drive comes with Mazda's G-Vectoring Control that reduces engine torque as the vehicle enters a corner, which in turn increases g-forces over the front axle just prior to braking. The effect adds tire contact with the road and greater stability when turning. The base CX-3 Sport is no stripped-down economy car as it includes 16-inch alloy wheels and blind-spot monitoring with backup cross-traffic alert. The middle trim adds climate control, and heated front seats, while leather seats, navigation, and a power moonroof are part of the top model.
