STATUS: Unchanged for 2020 - Mazda promotes driving enjoyment through advanced technology and knockout design. The automaker has applied this approach to its midsize family wagon with three rows of seats. The CX-9, equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder, produces 250 horsepower when using premium gasoline, or 227 horsepower on regular fuel (in either case torque remains 310 pound-feet). It's connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. The CX-9 carries the same basic design as the rest of the Mazda lineup, which means a long, car-like front end. The interior also wouldn't look out of place in a more upscale automobile. The Sport model is the least expensive of four trim levels, but includes lots of standard equipment. You'll need to pony up a bit more cash for all-wheel-drive, or opt for a better-equipped trim level where AWD is standard.
