2020 Hampton Roads International Auto Show
Mazda MX-5 Miata
STATUS: Unchanged for 2020 - One of the best-selling sports car in history is also one of the best looking of its type, at any price. Compared with the previous MX-5, the latest version is considerably sleeker from grille to trunk lid. A major weight-reduction effort also yielded a not-insignificant 150-pound decrease, with the help of aluminum body panels and lighter components. The roadster's easy-to-operate soft-top takes only one hand to unlatch or secure it in place. Buyers can pick it or the RF (Retractable Fastback). At the touch of a button, the rearward roof section raises and the roof panel tucks behind the seats before the raised section returns to its original position. The end result, although not technically a convertible, is open-air stylish. For the 2019 model year, the four-cylinder engine was boosted 26 horsepower to 181. Torque increased to 151 pound-feet from 148. Choose from a six-speed manual transmission, or available six-speed automatic.
