STATUS: New for 2020 - For truckers needing to tow up to 35,100 pounds of trailer weight, or haul up to 7,680 pounds of cargo, the Ram HD 2500 and 3500 models can deliver. Both are available in Regular Cab, Crew Cab and and Mega Cab bodies. The base engine is a 6.4-liter V-8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The top HD performer is the six-cylinder Cummins turbo-diesel, available in two grades. The tamest is rated at 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque, but maximum grunt is achieved with the optional high-output version that generates 400 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet. The 6.4 V-8 uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or both front and rear axles, but the Cummins is matched to a six-speed automatic. The available four-wheel-drive's disconnect feature disengages the forward driveshaft from the transfer case when not needed, thus slightly reducing fuel consumption while reducing drivetrain wear and tear. The top-line Ram Tungsten Limited combines big towing/hauling capacity with the latest luxury and technology content.
