STATUS: Restyled for 2020 - "Bolder" is the word that best describes the changes made to VW's midsize sedan. The Passat rides on the same chassis and suspension as before, but all the body panels below the roof are new. Most noticeable is the standard "slim" LED lighting and the larger grille that's chrome trimmed. There are also new wheel designs in sizes from 17 to 19 inches. The interior makeover includes and new instrument cluster, more soft-touch materials and a glass face for the updated infotainment system. Interfaces for Apple CarPlay and Android are standard. Also standard is a 174-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, however torque output increases 23 pound-feet to 207. The engine drives the front wheels throug a six-speed automatic transmission that can be manually controlled. The revamped Passat comes in four trim levels with a full complement of active-safety technology, including forward-collision warning and autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian monitoring), blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist that prevents drifting out of the intended path. Also standard is a six-year/72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
